Roots Are Why The Tree Does Not Snap

A tree in a storm moves. That is not the tree failing, that is what trees do. What decides whether it comes down is not happening above the ground at all.

Colossians 2:6 and 7 say, "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving." Rooted. Already done to you, not a target you are working toward.

Notice what Paul ties to the end of it. Thanksgiving. Not as a nice extra, as part of how the roots go down. Remembering what God has already done is what keeps you steady in what He has not done yet.

The disciples had watched Him feed thousands from a boy's lunch, and days later they were terrified in a boat. Fear does that. It wipes the record clean and makes you feel like this is the first time you have needed Him.

So look at what Jesus led with. Matthew 14:27 says, "Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid." Before the miracle, before the sea calmed, He told them who was there. That is still the order. So when the panic starts, you are not talking yourself into bravery. You are letting the Holy Spirit remind you who is in the boat.

Ask yourself honestly when He last let you down. The roots are already there. The storm is just showing you they are.
