What Comes Out Shows What Is Inside

You said something last week you are still slightly embarrassed about. Nobody planned it. It came out when you were tired or provoked, and it surprised you more than it surprised them.

Matthew 12:34 says, "O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." Your mouth is not the problem, it is the readout. Whatever has been filling you is what comes out under pressure.

Jesus moved this whole conversation off the outside. Mark 7:15 says, "There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man." The old food rules had been pointing at something deeper the entire time.

So this is not a call to police your speech harder. Watching your words while your heart stays exactly the same just makes you a more polite version of the same person. Change what fills the tank and the overflow takes care of itself.

When something ugly does come out, do not spiral about it for three days. 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Tell God plainly, receive the cleansing, and go put His Word back into the tank. The Holy Spirit is the one who changes what is inside. Your part is to keep feeding on what He already says about you.

Your words are just showing you the room that needs the light on. God was not shocked by what came out. He dealt with it at the cross before you ever said it.
