Stop Asking God For Barely Enough

Notice how small your prayers get when money is tight. You stop asking for anything good and start asking for just enough to not fall apart. God has never once described Himself that way.

Psalm 23:5 says, "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." Runneth over. Not filled to a safe level. Psalm 36:8 says, "They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures." A full house and a river. That is His own description of what He is like.

Jesus drew the line clearly. John 10:10 says, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." Lack sits on one side of that verse, with the thief. Jesus put Himself on the side of more.

Ephesians 3:20 says, "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us." Above what you ask. Above what you can even think up. Most of us set that ceiling ourselves and then assume God built it.

And none of this is waiting on you to qualify for it. 2 Peter 1:3 says His "divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him." Given. Already done. So you are not trying to talk God into something He is holding back, you are learning to receive what He handed over at the cross. Straight up, that changes how you pray about the job that has not come through or the family situation that has not moved. Come with expectation instead of apology, and let the Holy Spirit show you what is already yours.

Your cup was never meant to sit half full. He is not rationing. Come and drink.
