Faith Claims What God Already Named

The phrase name it and claim it makes plenty of Christians uncomfortable, and honestly some of that discomfort is earned. Underneath the caricature, though, there is something real in the New Covenant.

It works like this. Faith takes hold of what God has already named. It does not invent things and then demand them from Him.

Start with the biggest one. Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Nobody calls that presumptuous. You believed, and you received something God had already provided.

The same logic runs through the rest of it. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us." The yes was already spoken in Christ. Your faith is not creating the promise, it is receiving what He named.

Which also means this is not a slot machine and the weight is not on your performance. If something has not come through yet, that is not proof you failed at believing correctly. The Holy Spirit is the One who shows you what is actually in this covenant, so ask Him instead of straining for a formula.

You are not talking God into anything. You are agreeing with what He already said about you, and there is far more in that covenant than most of us have gone looking for.
