A Mind At Peace Changes Your Body
... For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
— Romans 8:5-6
You can get a fair read on where your life is heading. Not the events, but the quality of it. Just look honestly at what your mind lives on.
Romans 8:6 says, "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." Paul is not talking about being religious. He is talking about which set of facts you let run the show, the ones you can see or the ones God has said.
Let me say this clearly, because people get wounded right here. Being sick or struggling is not proof that you thought the wrong thoughts. Paul is showing you where life is available, not handing out blame.
Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things." That is not a nice suggestion. It is a description of the environment life actually grows in.
And it reaches further than your mood. Proverbs 4:20-22 says, "My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh." His words carry life into your body, not only into your thinking.
You do not white knuckle your thoughts into obedience. The Holy Spirit lives in you and He is the One who brings God's Word back up when worry starts talking. Give Him something to work with today and let peace do what it does.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that Your Word carries life and health into me. I am Yours and my mind belongs to You. Holy Spirit, bring the truth back to me whenever worry starts talking today. I set my thoughts on what You said and I rest in Your peace. Amen
