Jesus Fought With Words, Not Willpower

The Bible sitting on your shelf is not a lucky charm and it is not a rulebook. It is God talking, and it carries His authority when it comes out of your mouth.

Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Quick there means alive. That is not a description of ordinary text.

When Jesus was pushed to the edge in the wilderness, He did not argue and He did not strain. He answered with Scripture. Luke 4:4 records it: "And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." The pressure came again and again, and every time He said what was written.

Ephesians 6:17 tells you what you are actually holding: "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." It is called the sword of the Spirit for a reason. The power is not in your delivery, it is in the One who inspired it and now lives in you.

That is why William Carey spent years getting this book into Odia and other Indian languages. He was not distributing literature. He was handing people something alive.

So put it in you before you need it. When the accusation comes, you will not have to work up a feeling, you will simply say what God has already said. Straight up, that is how Jesus did it, and He left you the same sword.
