God Usually Speaks Quieter Than Everything Else

You can go weeks doing all the right things and still feel like you are talking into an empty room. It is a horrible feeling and almost nobody admits to it.

John 10:27 says, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." Notice He does not say some of them, or the mature ones. Hearing Him is normal equipment for anyone who belongs to Him.

The problem is usually volume, not access. Elijah went looking for God in the wind and the earthquake and the fire, and 1 Kings 19:12 says, "and after the fire a still small voice." That is what he had been waiting for the whole time.

A still small voice does not compete. It will not outshout your feed or your group chat or the thing you keep rehearsing at midnight. It just waits.

Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." So this is practical and unimpressive. Leave the phone in the other room for fifteen minutes. Read a bit of the Bible slowly and then stop talking. You are not earning access by doing that, you already have it. You are just turning the other things down so the Holy Spirit has room.

And if it takes a while, that is fine. He has not gone quiet on you, and He is not grading how fast you get this.
